BATTLE

Queen's Dance District was created with the purpose of uniting the dance community within Queen’s University.

In 2015, The Huffington Post acknowledged Queen’s University as one of the ten best Canadian Universities for extracurricular activities. From Quidditch to Walk Home, Queen’s University is dedicated to create opportunity, and community for students.

At Queen’s University, there is a diverse community in dance. With the exception of a select few, Queen’s offers almost every dance style you can think of. We have over ten different dance clubs ranging from Swing to African and Caribbean dance.

It was around a decade ago, when several members from Flow Dance Club (one of Queen’s hip-hop choreography teams) ventured to strengthen the dance community at Queens. They had felt as though many dance clubs had not often communicated, and that there was some tension that existed between them. Consequently, FLOW, organized an event that brought together all dancers from different backgrounds; Queen’s Dance Battle. This annual event is located at one of Kingston’s downtown clubs, where Queen’s students, and even local residents are encouraged to observe something entirely unique. Once a year, this event brings together all of Queen’s artistic movement talent, where choreography meets freestyle.
